What really struck me off the bat, was the physical endurance and how much your body means to this job. The constant back and forth you will also need mental endurance, not wanting to quit after pushing yourself more than once.
What I’m so fascinated about is the way they are able to stay determined and continue such hard work all day, it might be because I’m pretty weak and rarely get exercise in my arms. They primarily speak Spanish so i haven’t really communicate much with them. Just by observing from day one, I could see they have a routine on how everything is done. They are easy to get along with and were very welcoming when meeting me. I wasn’t quite prepared for the perfection that was expected for my mentors company but now I’m of understanding of why and what needs to be done for it to be a great job. I’m excited to witness the bond between customers and my mentor. Also how he deals with them and fulfills there needs. Something I am worried about is not going to be physically there when needed and messing it up. I have been close already to messing things up based off of me not being able to push something. "My responsibilities as the owner of the company, is to sell jobs first and foremost, manage jobs, manage the paperwork, and manage equipment and vehicles. Apart from all the stress and responsibility that comes with my career, my job is very satisfying. It gets me out of the house every day and stimulates me physically and mentally. I get to make other people happy and improve their properties, I provide employees with work which puts food on their table for themselves and their families, I get to meet new people every day, and I get to exercise while doing all of it. I wish I had an adult tell me the truth. How important it is to really figure out and know what you want to do before going to college and waste your time funding school without having a goal in mind. It is so important that you know what you want to do and then strive towards that goal. To be goal oriented to have an end. I’m not saying that you can’t change your mind along the way but at least drive for something and become an expert in it. Typical day is waking up in the morning and heading towards the job site. I make sure the crew is set and that they know their responsibilities and that they have all the supplies that they need. I make sure my client is happy. If I have appointments to sell more jobs I go do those. If I have equipment that needs to be fixed I help get that fixed. If there’s promoting that I need to do I will do that. When I’m done I go to the gym and exercise which helps me calm down from all the work. The reason I started Amazing Synthetic Greens is because I had a passion for golf and I wanted to install synthetic putting. The idea was for me to do something that I enjoy. As the company matured I realize that it was a lot more than that. I realize now that the purpose this company is to put food on my table, put food on my employees tables and to make our clients happy. It is absolutely vital that I get along with my employees, my clients, and my vendors. There’s nothing worse than having poor relationships with the people that you work with. I will not allow poor relationships into my everyday work. If there’s a problem I settle it immediately and if it can’t be fixed then I will no longer associate with that person. I think the most important trait and hidden one is that you need to have Forsyth. We need to be able to think ahead and understand what is the next step going to be. That allows you to prepare and be ready step-by-step by step by step. There are so many things that can go wrong on a job if you’re not able to think into the future and you lose a tremendous amount of time and you screw up the process and have to work backwards as well. It’s also an important characteristic to understand how valuable time is in regards to money. Know that it is essential that you’re able to communicate with your employees and vendors that they need to respect your time. It is very valuable to have communication skills and do this in a way that is loving and kind and actually helps them grow as well. Chandler, you have been very quiet throughout this process and have asked me so few questions that I am astonished. You could be asking a lot more questions for your betterment to understand more things that are going on. It runs category as having for sale. Foresight is similar to curiosity if you’re curious and you want to know how things work then you’ll ask questions and then when your questions answered you’ll have a much better understanding of how things work you just have to think things through more instead of letting things blow through you like the wind." I want his marketing side of company to be successful. The skills I will need to get this to happen, is take the skills I have learn of making social media and websites. The only support I will really need is good critique from my teacher or mentor and really tell me the truth. There is nothing more frustrating than not getting genuine critique. Blog #5
I have advocated for myself in the sense of not being scared to approach my mentor with questions related to the job. He is a very easy person to approach with questions or comments. I have tried to follow advice the best I could, by asking clarifying questions. I also have advocated for myself by not being afraid to say my opinion about the job. I am making sure that I will be an intern that they remember by creating a website that they can use to further their business. When I am on a job site, I advocate for myself by asking many questions to make sure I am doing to job correctly. I also like asking why we do certain things as well. Blog #6
I have made a meaningful contribution to my workplace by creating a website for them. By me creating this website it can further their business and make them more known. This will bring in more jobs for them and make them even more successful. My work as an internship has been meaningful because I am learning a lot about the work world like how in order to be successful you have to be determined, motivated, and committed. There are a lot of work that needs to be put out when owning a business and this has prepared me for my future and what I want to do. Some new appreciations I developed while I was working was to appreciate the time you have off and not waste it. You should use it to prepare for the next thing. Another appreciation is that it is teaching me about how hard I need to work to achieve my goals. The interpersonal relationship that I have with my mentor has influenced my understanding of life outside of high school because it shows me that people that I will be working with are very straightforward and that the workplace isn't always an easy nice place. My mentor isn't afraid to tell me what I am doing wrong and he makes a good lesson out of it to teach me. Blog #7
After experiencing this unique opportunity of internship, I have come to realize I cannot do a manual labor job. After shoveling every now and then I know I could not handle it, On the other hand after doing my project of helping my mentor with his social media and website, I think I would really enjoy the career of being the social media manger of companies. I go to college in majoring in computer science or majoring in marketing to convey the marketing aspect of social media. I can definitely see myself doing this in the future and owning my own bushiness. I got to see what it takes to own a business in a more serious manor, getting to see money management and also time management. Overall, I am happy to have done it and we not have made such a personal connection with my mentor without it. |
